Women in Design: Event Highlights

This members only event was a great opportunity to experience and learn about the work of Nipa Doshi, Vivienne Westwood and Rei Kawakubo while mingling and making connections with fellow VCV members. With a curator-led talk and access to NGV Friday Nights it was a chance to get inspired and plan ways to integrate NGV Learn Programs into school learning experiences.

The evening included a presentation by Ewan McEoin, Senior Curator of Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture. McEion highlighted the potential for visits to exhibitions such as the MECCA x NGV Women in Design Commission to help students understand that designs tell a story, hold history and reflect the values, priorities, cultural practices and technologies of their time and place.

In addition to investigating the Nipa Doshi exhibition (MECCA x NGV Women in Design Commission), attendees explored the galleries permanent collection, enjoyed food and drink together at The Barre and returned for the incredible Westwood | Kawakubo NGV Friday Nights.

Thanks to all who attended our first event for 2026 and be sure to stay tuned for future opportunities!

“Good design is actually a lot harder to notice than poor design, in part because good designs fit our needs so well that the design is invisible,”
